Putting the Pedal to the Metal with Truss

Leon Fallon is one of the key members of the TAF UK team, with vast experience within the truss and support structure industry in the UK. As a knowledgeable and trusted professional, TAF customers count on Leon for his valuable guidance that ensures their use of TAF truss and support structures will contribute to the success of their projects.

  1. Can you tell us where you are from, your early years, and if there were any signs when you were growing up that pointed in the direction of truss and support structures?

I currently live in Wolverhampton, where I was born and raised. Half of my family are from Devon, so I spent a lot of time there growing up.

Truss itself is very similar to “backstage” of events and exhibitions. Mostly hidden out of sight and unaware to the viewer. As such, I wasn’t exposed to truss and support structures in my early years, so it never crossed my mind. But little did I know how much this would change in the years that followed.

  1. Was your first job related to truss or support structures? If not, what finally led you in that direction?

I’ve always been eager to work and learn, often badgering my brother (who owns a glazing company) through my school years to work for some extra pocket money on weekends!

Skipping ahead a few years, I graduated from further education and found myself working for a friend’s family farm during the summer. Knowing this wasn’t going to be my forever line of work, but not knowing where to start, I signed up to an apprentice agency hoping to find some inspiration.

This is where my journey began within the industry.

  1. What were you doing in the years leading up to the establishment of TAF UK? Do you have a specialization and other experience you can tell us about?

I joined the TrussLite team just over 10 years ago, which was around the time we launched our very own truss brand (an OEM brand of TAF). In the early months, our minds were predominantly hire based, mainly using truss as a building accessory for exhibitors at exhibition venues up and down the country. However, this quickly developed into building a brand supplying some of the largest customers in the UK for almost any sector imaginable!

The company grew quickly within the industry, along with my experience, until this year when we decided to focus on hire only, coinciding with the launch of TAF UK.

  1. Is there a memorable truss or support structure project you have worked on? Or maybe one where you were able to save the day?

I have been lucky to work on some very extraordinary and interesting projects, ranging from the development of our latest high-speed rail (HS2) to maintenance on oil rigs in the North Sea.

But as a thorough, born and raised car enthusiast, I would have to say my most memorable project to date was when I had the pleasure to both supply and install the home of British GP, at Silverstone. TAF truss was used in multiple areas across their circa 4-mile circuit for Formula 1 and MotoGP in 2023.

  1. What is your title and responsibilities at TAF UK?

I’m the Sales Manager, tackling day-to-day management of the TAF UK office, overlooking projects and assisting our sales department. TAF has an extensive line of truss and support structures that include towers, roofs, LED Frames, stage decks, and more, so we are always working on a wide range of projects. One thing’s for sure, it never gets boring!

  1. How do you see TAF UK’s position in the UK and Irish market, and what sets it apart from the competition?

Right from the very beginning, we knew stock and customer service were two key factors that were essential to building our brand. This has formed an extremely valued position for TAF amongst other competitors.

Along with the benefit of our turn-key in-house services, customers can take advantage of comprehensive project support, technical designs, realistic renders, and professional installation - all under the TAF roof.

  1. Do you have any hobbies or extracurricular activities you can share with us?

As I mentioned briefly, cars are my passion. When I finally get some free time, you can find me doing, watching, or reading something that’s automotive related!
